We are proud to present Derek Penslar as our Davida Glazer Memorial Program 2024 speaker. The talk, offered via zoom, will be on ANTISEMITISM AND ANTI-ZIONISM. (Zoom link info will be sent out to all registrants a day or two before the event.)

Derek Penslar is the William Lee Frost Professor of Jewish History at Harvard University and the Director of Harvard’s Center for Jewish Studies. His research takes a comparative and transnational approach to the study of Jewish history,
which he studies within the contexts of modern capitalism, nationalism, and colonialism. A leading scholar and gifted teacher, among Penslar's recent books are Jews and the Military: A History (2013), Theodor Herzl: The Charismatic
Leader (2020), and Zionism: An Emotional State (2023).

Davida Glazer (1955 – 2003) was a dear friend and valued Oraynu Board member.  She had a great love of learning, and an abiding commitment to Jewish culture and education.  Oraynu has honoured Davida’s passion for secularism in Jewish education and Israel since 2005, with regular programs in her name.  We believe Davida would have been delighted with this year's speaker, Professor Derek Penslar.
